Emilee was not herself on Friday, so I started getting a bit worried. After a blessing in the morning we waited until the doctor could see her early afternoon. During that time Emilee was very lethargic and cuddly and refusing to eat (not at all like her); she would wake up looking uncomfortable and move around a little bit then go right back to sleep. When we saw the covering doctor she guessed that Emilee had intussusception (turns out she was right). FYI, intussusception is when the bowel 'telescopes' on itself - this can then block the passage of stool and can impede blood flow to the intestine --- not good!
The doctor sent us to the hospital via ambulance (my first ambulance ride). After an x-ray, lab work, and an ultrasound, the doctors were pretty sure Emilee had intussusception which needed to be fixed right away.
She had a super enema (as I call it) to help lengthen the bowel back out. When the radiologist started the procedure (with a live x-ray) it looked like the intussusception had reduced itself (which is a possibility); the docotors wanted to do the enema anyway to be sure that things were okay. A surgeon was standing by in the room in case it didn't work/look good in which case Emilee would have emergency surgery.
Luckily everything worked and looked good. They kept us over night for observation purposes. And, they finally let her drink that night - yay! Well, by Satuday morning Emilee woke up like normal and was feeling fine. Unfortunately for her we had to stick around until the middle of the afternoon. She was sad that we wouldn't let her crawl on the hospital floors. So, she seems fine now. We have a doctor's appointment this morning to just check up on things. There should not be any further complications to worry about, and while there is a chance of recurrence, it is low. I got pictures of Emilee after she was feeling better at the hospital.
We had fun playing with Grandpa and Grandma the following day. Clear cups are pretty cool to play with when you have a baby. I'm not sure if it's looking through the cup that distorts a baby's mouth or if the mouth actually looks that funny on a cup, but we just don't normally notice. Try it out with a baby or even an adult and let me know what you think.
Emilee just keeps growing bigger. We keep being told to have her be a baby model, but I can't imagine why people say that.
She went through this little phase (after traveling) of not wanting to be put down at all. Since she was so clingy, I decided to make her help me with chores.
She also went swimming in a kiddie pool for the first time. She ended up liking it a lot; she wasn't so sure about the whole swimsuit idea at the beginning.
Emilee likes carrots (even if you can't tell by this picture). She loves being a messy eater, and she hates getting cleaned up at the end.
And, every now and then, mommy gets down on the floor to play. Emilee started trying to crawl about two weeks ago. She liked trying to crawl/climb over mom and dad.
