The sweetest thing happened on Valentine's Day. We've been working with her on praying for a while, and she's been repeating the last word of the phrases we say. We've had a family home evening lesson on prayer. And, we've tried to talk a little more about prayers at different times. So, on Monday, I asked Emilee if she wanted to say the prayer at lunch. She said yes, and I asked her,"How do we start?" I think I had to prompt her with two or three words, and then she launched into the prayer on her own. She said the whole thing BEAUTIFULLY and by herself. I was so proud, and tears came to my eyes. She also prayed at dinner for Britt. So we're having her do a little more on her own. Of, course, now she tries to go fast by only saying the beginning and the ending. It's still a work in progress.
So, the big news is that our house was broken into this week. Lucky for whoever did it, I wasn't here to scare them away. Thus, they got most of our electronics and the money we had stashed at home. There's no way to fully describe the feelings that I had when I came home on Wednesday, nor the feelings that I've had since. But, oddly enough, I have felt a sense of peace along with everything else. I know that God is ultimately in control even though He lets people make their own choices. It's all part of the plan - agency is given to all of us.
That was the update, now for the excuse. I won't be able to put pictures up until we get a new camera (unless anyone wants to see the aftermath of the burglary -- a friend brought a camera and took pictures of that). I wish I had gotten caught up on blogging before it all happened because all those pictures I meant to post are gone as well. That's one of the biggest sorrows I've had. Goodbye cute pictures and family videos. We had multiple back-ups, but it was all taken. :(
Morals of the story:
-Don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today.
-Write down your serial numbers for electronics and keep the receipt for those big purchases (pawn shops have to submit serial bumbers to the police). P.S. we only had one serial number saved.
-Don't keep backups next to your computer.
-If you want something to stay hidden, put it in one of fifty diaper boxes in the kids' closet with all of them labeled Emilee's toys (a little exaggeration but they didn't open all of those boxes).
-Listen to the Bishop when he recommends getting a security system.
-Funny things happen during a crisis. Our neighbors gave us a practically new BBQ grill while we were waiting for the police to show up; hmm, what else are you gonna do, right?
I hope all is well for everyone that I've been meaning to call in the last little while. We actually finally finished our family newsletter for last year, but I had not printed it, so it is gone as well. I will work on getting something done since we do still have our family pictures that were printed in December. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus are mindful of us and our struggles - it is up to us to place our burdens on them.
