San Diego Trip

Last week Emilee and I got to take a trip to San Diego. My old roomies and I decided to have some girl time since one husband would be on a school/work trip for a few days. Britt decided to take the time to help Dad paint the Woodruff house. Janny still lives in Tucson, so she would come with the baby and me.
We left Sunday morning for the long drive. We stopped in Yuma for church and to see my family. My mom made us a delicious lunch (thanks Mom). My Dad bought the baby toys (thank you). Baby Emilee did a great job on the drive - there really wasn't much fussing. When we got to San Diego, Emilee (my old roommate) had dinner waiting for us. Cody helped bring everything in from the car that was parked far away (thank you, too). What a great day!
It was exciting letting Baby Eliza and Baby Emilee meet. Mommy Emilee has a baby that is about two weeks younger than mine. We've been dying to see them together. Janny was convinced before we got there that the little girls would be great friends!
Here I caught Baby Emilee in the act of pushing Eliza over . . . actually, Janny commented that Baby Emilee is just used to using anything or anyone to get up so she didn't realize that Eliza wouldn't be sturdy enough. Possibly true. But, Baby Emilee did seem a bit mischevious at times.
Here we are at the beach for the first time. We have video footage of going in the water, but I don't know how to upload it. Maybe later. Turns out, Emilee didn't like the water much; I think it was just a little too cold for her. We did have fun on the beach.
There's her dirty tush. Water + Sand = Mess.
Acutally, Sand + Anything = Mess.
We went home to clean up and rest and plan the rest of the day. For dinner we went out to eat at The Cheesecake Factory. It was to make up for missing our husbands. ;) The food was great. I had a fun time keeping Baby Emilee occupied. Imagine the first five minutes we were there: I held Emilee while . . . clearing off the table where she could reach, picking up silverware from the bench, pulling things from her iron-grip, turning her around, moving my menu out of reach, taking a drink of water, moving the cup of water out of reach, setting up a booster seat, using the diaper bag strap as a belt to hold Emilee in the booster seat, moving more things I thought were out of reach, grabbing toys for Emilee that she didn't want, and finally getting her situated and starting on bananas (For the first time). I felt it was quite an accomplishment making it through; the rest of the mealtime went rather well after that.
After dinner that night we went to Old Navy and bought clothes for awesome deals. Then we went home and pretty much crashed. Emilee slept well that night.

This was after our picnic at Balboa Park. We had lots of fun walking around and going to the art museum. Unfortunately, I didn't get as many pictures as I would have liked. I'm still waiting to get pictures from Janny, too.

After Balboa, we went back home for naps and such. We decided to order pizza for dinner that night (weren't we lazy??). It was pretty yummy. After the babies went to bed, we grown-ups ate the rest of our cheesecake from the night before ---- YUMMY! Then we stayed up way too late talking to each other. It reminded me of college days, and it was pretty fun. Unfortunately, just when I wanted to go to bed, Baby Emilee woke back up and wanted only to be held by me. It made for a long night, but there was still something nice about cuddling with my baby.

The next morning we were forced to get up and get ready to spend a full day in the car. We stopped in Yuma again to break up the trip. We had lunch with Melinda (thank you for doing that for us), and we got to see Grandpa before heading back out. Again, Emilee did surprisingly well. Janny and I just gabbed the hole way while she stayed peaceful in the back.

It was so nice to come home and see Britt (Daddy) again. Britt made a wonderful dinner for us. The house looked so nice and clean (I guess I know who makes the messes!). It was a fun trip - just nice to get away for a while without any worries about work or cleaning up my house. And, of course, I loved having "grown up girl bonding time." Thanks friends for making it so fun! And, thanks Britt for insisting I go even though I wanted to debate about it!!
